Rest easy. With our Shield Assurances, we take care of things other home warranty companies might not, like:

  • Normal wear-and-tear, no matter the age of a covered item
  • Unknown, pre-existing breakdowns
  • Items without maintenance records
  • Duplicates of the same item, like that extra AC unit
  • Removal of defective equipment
  • Refrigerant recapture, reclaim and disposal
  • Breakdowns caused by improper installations or repairs, insufficient maintenance, rust, corrosion and sediment and mismatched HVAC systems

See the plan agreement for coverage details, including service fees, limitations and exclusions. Coverage limits and charges for non-covered items may apply.

Appliance FAQs

American Home Shield® covers the parts and components of nine laundry and kitchen appliances that help keep your home running smoothly, including: Refrigerators, Ranges & Cooktops, Ovens, Dishwashers, Built-in Microwaves, Garbage Disposals, Clothes Washers, Clothes Dryers, and Installed Instant Hot/Cold Water Dispensers.

When a covered item breaks down, simply place a service request online via MyAccount, pay your service fee, and we’ll assign a Pro. The Pro will diagnose and repair the covered item subject to your plan’s coverage limits.

Yes, we don't care how old your home systems and appliances are. You can purchase an American Home Shield home warranty without an inspection or maintenance records.

American Home Shield will assign a Pro from our network who specializes in the type of item and issue you are experiencing. The assigned Pro will then reach out to you. In some limited situations, American Home Shield may offer you the ability to choose your own contractor, also known as outside authorization. Unless American Home Shield offers you the outside authorization, you may not use your own contractor. Please see the plan agreement for more information.

If we can't repair your covered appliance, we will replace it subject to the limitations and exclusions in your plan agreement and remove the defective item.

When you join American Home Shield, there are two fees associated with your home warranty plan: the plan cost and the amount you'll pay when you request service, which is your service fee. Your service fee is a set amount that you get to choose when you sign up for your plan. It covers the cost for a Pro to diagnose the problem.

No, we do not limit the number of service requests that you can make, although some coverage limitations and exclusions, such as covered item limits, may apply. With the ShieldGold plan, we will cover up to $2,000 per covered appliance per plan agreement term and with the ShieldPlatinum plan, we will cover up to $4,000 per covered appliance. See the plan agreement for coverage details.
